Abstract

Various botanical or plant extracts were screened and validated for their bioefficacy against several agriculturally important insect pests in last few decades, which revealed it to be one of the major candidate for integrated insect pest management approaches because of their high toxicity to pests, biodegradable, systemic, eco-friendly and less-toxic nature to natural enemies. The importance and possible use of botanicals in agricultural insect pest management, especially Assam Agricultural University (AAU) experiences in tea insect pest management has been enlisted in this chapter. The literature revealed the potentiality of Pongamia pinnata, Lantana camara, Vitex negundo, Ageratum conyzoides, Pogostemon parviflorus, Polygonum hydropiper, Leucas lavandulifolia, Aegle marmelos, Chromolaena odorata and Phlogocanthus thyrsiflorus for effectual management of Helopeltis theivora and Oligonychus coffeae attacking the tea crop.
