Abstract

Seeds are the basic material of all living creatures. To harvest a good crop seed should be healthy and true to type. Seeds harbor beneficial microbes which are involved directly or indirectly in growth and development of seedling and crop establishment. Seed interior beneficial micobiome or seed endophytes are the diverse group of microorganisms which are having the potentiality to enhance growth and development of the plant community with which they maintain symbiosis. Endophytes are well known for their antimicrobial activity. Entophytes isolated from seeds of various crop protect the plant from biotic and abiotic stress by producing secondary metabolites. The present paper reviews the diverse seed endophtytic community isolated from different seed of different crop species and their role in production of phytohormone or growth hormone and enzyme and also the seed defense mechanism to protect against foreign bodies.
